There seems to be a growing coalition of union and labor force that is beginning to have pull (think Biden probably siding with railroad strikers) and I'm not entirely sure if its a good or bad thing (spiking inflation right now and jamming domestic logistics feels like a bad move while competing with CN & RU) but I think you are quite right otherwise, as to how the system is currently run.
On a tangent and slightly related note, im actually coming to the conclusion that in order for this system to work they had to systematically discredit truth sayers and thinkers who would question the system and call bullshit. Rising opioid deaths in Midwest, and then opioid epidemic writ large have had some Brave New World vibes to them. Gutting the industrial class to offshore manufacturing is a tough sale for a proud working middle class.
But this crypto saga, and that im working with a group of neurodivergents on launching a platform to empower ND creators to sell their products on, and with the added effort of spreading awareness about ND and mental health, something im deeply passionate about...
A characteristic of autistic people is that they are truth sayers. They rub people the wrong way with their brutal honesty. But it's moral clarity. One easy heuristic to check whether you're autistic is if you regularly consider 3rd order effects. Neurotypicals have to take a class in order to think 3rd order effects and they have to practice it to keep it up regularly.
So what if there was a coordinated effort to discredit the truth sayers of society, the people who are capable of seeing 3rd order effects and regularly call bullshit on crazy stuff? Like all the crypto analysts ive found who have been cracking these cases, often were people on the spectrum who did actual due diligence and had their B.S. detectors go off.
Lol.
Anyways, its an interesting thought experiment. I appreciate you starting this discussion. People are not at all thinking quite nearly enough about 3rd order effects and it is deeply troubling. Because christ almighty the pain is coming and it's not going to be prettyl
Also would love to get your advice or insight or gauge interest on collaborating on the platform! We have a few folk from the community who are interested in building this platform and its a long term project
Please keep writing here and on Twitter. This one is a gem “This is where we find ourselves: with two parties, each of which represent a tiny fraction of the country. The median American has no representation.”
Well written. I fear modern life is too comfortable for the vast majority of Americans to look past the entertainment value of "hate the player" and seek meaningful reform of our governing systems.
Wish I knew. History offers some clues as to how these things resolve, but there are myriad paths and probably even more options than we can find in our own past.
More and more these are the vibes I’m getting. Crime is on the rise and there is a growing feeling of lawlessness and anger. We need to collectively figure this out soon.
It’s not increasingly concentrated on the wealthy’s interests. It’s entirely so. I recommend looking over the Princeton study on the oligarchic nature of modern American government. This is yet another symptom of 1971.

How does this resolve itself? Do the super wealthy have to lose their wealth?

Ain't an easy problem.
